On Tuesday, I took a trip down to Trafalgar Square on a secret mission, (a successful one I must add) and while exploring the area before taking the hour long trip back to Essex, I came across this neat little bakery while on the lookout for something sweet to try.
I had never had a Paris Brest before, sadly because I never really go past the realm of croissants and muffins unless it's a special occasion, or I'm feeling fancy. Looking to celebrate on Tuesday, I
walked around the area looking for a Patisserie Valerie or something to satisfy my craving for something Parisian - fast. PAUL caught my eye as I was crossing the road to head into Boots for some makeup items, and thought I would just have a look in there for ideas as to what to have...
Well, to cut things short - I just had to have everything. But seeing as I'm a student, and I'll have to put down a deposit for a flat soon, I decided to not go crazy, but leave with "something you haven't tried before".
So I decided to go for a Paris Brest.
And to describe it as best I can, it's a choux bun, dusted with icing sugar and sliced almonds, sliced open to be filled with candied hazelnuts and cream patissiere.
It was delicious. All textures were right, no flavour was too overpowering, yet all were apparent and needed. Nothing felt out of place. The choux bun was light and airy, as was the cream patissiere, the almonds and hazelnuts both complemented each other in smoothness and texture. I could have eaten six of them.
Please go and try a Paris Brest. You will not be disappointed.
Thanks for Reading, and Happy Sunday,
