Oh my goodness.
Sleeping has to be, I think even more than blogging, one of my all time favourite things to do. I consider myself an expert. I had to be honest guys! Sleep is a very, very beautiful thing.
And in today's post, I will be filling you in on a few ways you can get a better night's sleep. Christina style.
Make your space COMFORTABLE.
I remember in the lead up to moving into halls, before the start of university, I piled up on all things comfort and was obsessed with bedding, skincare and pillows. I realised later on that this is called "nesting" - trying to make a very cushion-y, soft environment for myself so I would feel "more at home" while nearly 150 miles away from "real" home.
Doing this definitely worked. Allowing myself to feel comfortable took away the stress of being by myself and allowed myself to be peaceful in my dorm room - it allowed me to rest when I needed it to.
Turn off before you "turn off".
I honestly need to follow this rule myself, as I'm sure I would build in more of a routine, much more easily if I did this. NO technology, at least an hour before bed. No phone, no TV, no tablet, no nothing. Music? Perhaps, if it makes you feel better, but I'd shy away from anything with a bright screen. Holding a bright screen in front of your face for an extended period of time tells your body that it's daytime, and releases hormones that keep you awake! Tell me why you'd want to do that to yourself at 11:15pm when you've got to be up in 8 hours?
Consume "comfort".
Now I will rarely tell you to eat to make yourself feel better, but having a warm and comforting dinner, that satiates you, not over-fills you, will likely help you feel better when going to bed. We all know that food speaks to people, and being released from hunger is enough to completely change your mood. Are you one of those people that get angry if they haven't eaten in a few hours? That's me, through and through. My personal favourite, right before bed, is a mug of rice pudding. THE ultimate comfort food, I'm asleep within 10 minutes of finishing it.
Go to bed clean.
Have you ever gone to bed without washing your face? I'm guilty of going to bed with my makeup still on and waking up to it smudged everywhere in the morning... And I never feel good after. Simply by washing your face, brushing your teeth, you can help yourself to feel so much more relaxed before hitting the sack. Feeling clean, for me, is one of the ultimate comforts in life. Smelling fresh, tasting minty, seeing my actual skin and feeling no weight on my lashes (thank you, makeup remover), is the best thing ever before going to bed.
NO CAFFEINE.
If you've even considered this - hours before bed - you must be joking. I like coffee as much as the next person, but I will not drink it at 7:00pm and potentially jeopardize my sleep. Think about it this way, go to bed earlier, and you can have coffee much "sooner". Well, you know, it'll seem that way, because, you know.. you're asleep. Food for thought. ..Actually, not really, it's pretty straight forward.Happy World Sleep Day! Enjoy tonight, and have a lie-in tomorrow!
