JANUARY FAVOURITES

Boys and Girls, Welcome Back!

January was a great month - had most of the time off to chill and sort my sh*t out before the start of university in Feb, which means I got to go home a couple times, chill with friends and just have uninterrupted time to myself - which is always a great thing.

Having so much time off over the course of December and January also meant that I had a lot of downtime - which means I was able to go out more, get caught up on all my mid-watched series' (series? serieses?) on Netflix, go shopping, cook... The list goes on. So this month I have a few *special* faves - and I'm excited to share 'em.

FOOD

If you've been active on my social media you'd see I'm loving scrambled eggs at the moment. They're deliciously creamy and satiating - I'm confident enough to say I've mastered the act of making them perfect every single time.

I've also fallen HEAD OVER HEELS in love with Houmous again. I can't remember why I stopped buying it before but I'm so glad it's back in my fridge now. I have it spread on warm Peshwari naan, on the side of my scrambled egg and avocado toast with cherry tomatoes and spinach, I top my vegetable korma's with it - it's really becoming a household fave. The best one I've tried so far is the one in M&S. 'Organic Houmous with Olive Oil' I think it's called - it's a game-changer.

Pancakes continue to be one of my favourite meals. They are such a delight. I haven't had them that much recently, but whenever I have, they've been amazing.

And lastly, tea has been such a fave this month, it's a comfort and a necessity. I take mine strong with lots of milk (almond has been the preference recently) and no sugar. If it's got a good colour I'm down. Weak tea is for weak people. Power to the tea bag. I don't know what I'm talking about.

MUSIC

The Less I Know The Better - Tame Impala

If you know me personally, you know of my obsession with this song - but probably don't understand it. I could go on (I really could) but I won't. Let's just say that if you enjoy bass, and in particular the bass guitar, you'll love it. And if you're like me, you'll love the music video. It's weird.

Killing Switch - Last Lynx

If you're a fan of The Michalaks - you'll get it. If you don't know who they are... you'll probably still like it.

FILM

SERIES
Skins is hands down the best favourite I've had this month. Over everything. I started Volume 1 mid-January and was on Volume 6 by the end. I love it. I know I'm very late to it - the first "Volume" started in 2007 and the last episode was in 2013. And it's 2017 now, haha. My reasoning for this is simple - I was ELEVEN in 2007 and just about starting secondary school - if I was watching Skins back then I'd probably be mentally scarred today. Things get pretty real.

FILM
Erin Brockovich made me laugh and brought me to tears. Her story is amazing. I thought her portrayal in the film was well played by Julia Roberts - she always plays the "independent-feisty-woman" type well. It was a random find on Netflix, I'd never really go to watch a film like that, but I'm so glad I did. By the near end, I felt empowered, strong n' shit. As I was watching the last few scenes with her in her car and the "facts" started appearing up on screen, I was puzzled for a second. "This isn't a true story... is it? Wait a second.." I scrambled for my phone and typed "Eri.." into the search bar, only to be beaten by Google's autocomplete search system as the search bar then read "Erin Brockovich". I pressed enter and she became a real person. She's still a millionaire as far as I know. 10/10.
(^ I know you were probably expecting La La Land to be a favourite film this month. It is, but since it's all everyone's talking about, I thought I'd share a genuine fave that's something a little different.)

YOUTUBE
The Michalaks are having a moment right now. Their vlogs continue to get better week on week and are the perfect thing to enjoy alongside a cuppa on a Sunday morning.

sunbeamsjess was without a doubt my favourite Youtuber throughout the course of January and the latter winter months. Her style is something that continues to evolve, as well as the quality of her content. Her best video to date has to be "WEEK IN OUTFITS" that she posted late November last year, in which she showcases about 7 outfits she wears to uni' on a regular basis, each style very different and highlighting that she can pull off a number of looks with ease without trying too hard. That's exactly what I'm trying to do with my wardrobe, and that's exactly what you could do with yours.

APPAREL

Shiny, shiny shoooooooes. The title picture features my two wardrobe favourites at the moment which are the MANGO Black Patent Sock Boots and my ASOS Silver Brogues. I'm loving the trend of patent and shine at the moment, I feel like it's an easy trend to pull off in Spring with lighter colour palettes and drier weather, so I'll be using them both a lot more in the next couple months teamed with light denim and pastel colours or a darker colour palette and leather...

I'm also really loving silver jewellery... as I always have, but I thought I'd mention it this month in particular because I'm starting to wear a few more statement pieces and a lot more silver rings. I find silver is a easy way to dress up an outfit yet still remaining understated and classy. Silver is much easier to wear than gold, so it's everyday use really appeals to me - such a simple way to look "put together".

That was this month's favourites! I hope you enjoyed them!

See ya in a month,
